Bronze Clock, XIXth Century

Gilded bronze and black marble mantel clock from Belgium, 19th century.

The clock is clasped in a gilded bronze tree trunk on which a winged Love in patinated bronze sways.

On the base in medium relief, a Love holding a butterfly symbolizing the soul (Psyche in Greek) refers to the influence of the feeling that it embodies on the human soul. Like love in the round bump that swings at the branches, love is changeable, does it only at its head and can hurt (falling from a branch in the case of our winged Love).

The elements to go up the clock are taped to the back of the clock.
