"Ochie from the Koiseya Tea House" ("Kobikicho Arayashiki Koiseya Ochie") by Utamaro Kitagawa, depicting a portrait of Ochie, a Japanese woman reading a book (kibyōshi).
In the ukiyo-e style (Japanese term meaning "pictures of the floating world"): a Japanese art movement of the Edo period (1603-1868) encompassing not only original folk and narrative painting, but also, and especially, Japanese woodblock prints.
Presented in a large gilt envelope, framed under glass.

Utamaro Kitagawa (1753-1806), Japanese painter, specialist in ukiyo-e. He is particularly known for his depictions of beautiful women (bijin-ga), but his work also includes numerous scenes of nature and animals, as well as erotic albums (shunga). His work reached the West in the 19th century where it met with great success. He particularly influenced the Impressionists with his bold framing and the graphic style of his prints.
