Object description :

"Japanese Woodblock By Utagawa Hiroshige 1855 From Tokkaido Vertical"
Japanese print by Utagawa Hiroshige 1855 from the Vertical Tokkaido "Tsuchiyama, the foot of Suzuka Hill and the Suzuka River, Plate No. 50 of the Fifty-Three Famous Views of the Tokkaido" printed on chirimen-e paper , condition as is.
These Chirimen-e type prints are edited on Japanese crepe paper very close to fabric and required a different production technique from classic prints. They would have appeared as early as the 1800s in Japan. They remained in their identical representations to the original subjects of the artists although edited in smaller formats. Many Hiroshige classics, for example, were made in Chirimen-e.
