Artist: Antonio Sassone
Born on December 19, 1906, in Amendolara, Cocensa Province, Italy. During the Fascist period, he emigrated with his family to Buenos Aires and lived in the Boedo neighborhood, where he developed his artistic vocation.
He graduated from the Ernesto de la Cárcova School of Fine Arts, under the instruction of Alfredo Guido (composition and engraving), Soto Avendaño (sculpture), and Enrique Prins (philosophy of art). In 1932, he was appointed to the drawing chair at the Peña Pacha Camac, which operated on the terrace of the Biarritz café. His students included Sepuccio Tidone and Luis Dottori. With his studio in the Flores neighborhood, he developed his skills as a sculptor, painter, researcher, writer, and poet. Among his awards are the Grand Prize of the President of the Argentine Nation in 1954; Grand Prize of Honor of the Ministry of Public Instruction in 1951; Grand Prize of Honor of the Sacred Arts, 1954; Grand Municipal Prize of the City of Buenos Aires, 1958; Grand Prize of Honor at the Rosario Exposition 1957; among many others. As a professor, he taught art history, artistic anatomy, morphology, sculpture, drawing and composition. In addition, he published books of poetry and a didactic book entitled "Science and Technology in the Plastic Arts". His works are in important museums around the world and in dozens of private collections.
