Pre-Columbian Carchi Bowl 750-1550 AD Ecuador. The Nariño culture, or Carchi in Ecuador, is an archaeological culture that existed between the 7th and 12th centuries on the highlands of the Andes mountain range on the border between Colombia and Ecuador, in what is now the Colombian department of Nariño. This civilization buried its caciques in tombs located at a depth of 30 to 40 meters, maintained trade relations with the peoples of the Amazon basin and the Pacific coast, and worked gold.
