Louis XVI Style Commode With Marquetry And Bronze Ornamentation, Marquetry, Revel (31)
Artist: Revel ( 31 )
A magnificent Louis XVI style commode in mahogany and burr wood, opening at the front with three drawers in three rows. The two lower drawers are stacked, without a crossbar, and decorated with a rectangular bronze frame featuring a heart-shaped motif. The top drawer is entirely covered with a wide bronze frieze of interlaced patterns. The sides are adorned with a square frame bearing the same motif as the front and also surmounted by the same interlaced bronze frieze. The front uprights have tapered columns, and the commode rests on four toupie feet, tapered and fluted, ringed at the top and terminating in bronze sabots. Bronze rings allow the drawers to be opened. The keyhole escutcheons are in the Louis XVI style. A beautiful white veined Carrara marble top crowns this splendid piece of furniture. Note a small stain on this one (see last photo). Beautifully made in Revel (Haute-Garonne). Origin label present under the base (see photo).
