Louis XV Style Cylinder Desk In Diamond Marquetry, Marble Top And Brass Gallery
Elegant Louis XV style cylinder desk in precious wood marquetry with lozenge patterns. This splendid piece of furniture rests on four cabriole legs ending in superb sabots encompassing the entire ends of the feet. The two front panels also feature beautiful openwork and chased bronze mounts in their upper sections. The apron is pleasingly shaped and has three drawers that follow the contours of the front rail. The upper section opens with a cylinder lock, revealing a small niche flanked by two drawers and surmounted by a second rail. A pull-out leather-lined drawer extends the work surface. The whole is topped with a lovely veined marble in beige and ochre, encircled by an openwork brass gallery. The back of the piece is beautifully crafted; the rail is also shaped, and the entire piece is covered with fine V-shaped veneer work, allowing it to be placed in the center of a room. This piece is entirely inlaid on its three main faces with magnificent diamond-shaped marquetry. The marquetry is in remarkable condition overall; however, there are a few minor repairs to tiny areas where the veneer is missing at the corners (barely visible) and these have no impact on the overall appearance. Visually, note also a small mark on the leather. Very fine craftsmanship from the late 19th - early 20th century. Dimensions: height to gallery 109 cm, height under shelf: 74 cm, length: 84.5 cm, depth of closed cylinder 54 cm, depth of open drawer 80 cm, drawer working surface 42 cm x 72 cm, dimensions to gallery 21 cm x 72 cm.
