Miniature Portrait Box Of A Lady, Tortoiseshell And Vermeil, 18th-19th Century
The lid of this beautiful round brown tortoiseshell box is adorned with an 18th-century oval miniature, a portrait of a lady of quality with powdered hair adorned with roses, wearing a blue dress with a neckline decorated with a bow and lace.
The miniature is protected by domed glass and surrounded by a frame that is likely gold (unable to test).
The mount is vermeil, marked "double gold" and bearing a hare's head hallmark.
Note: A narrow damp stain on the left edge of the miniature. Minor nibbling on the base.
EXCELLENT CONDITION, miniature dating from the 18th century, circa 1770, vermeil mount hallmarked during the Restoration period (1819-1838).
