Rene Harboe : "the Girl"
René Harboe (born in Bordeaux in 1896): "The Flapper," oil on canvas, 46 x 38 cm, mounted in a beautiful modern frame, 67 x 54 cm.
This fine Bordeaux artist exhibited primarily in Paris at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Indépendants, and the Salon des Tuileries, showing works in the Art Deco style, such as our painting depicting a young woman wearing makeup, seated on a sofa with heavy cushions, her hair styled in a boyish bob, and dressed in loungewear.
A broad brushstroke, revealed by a palette that is both muted and vibrant—a palette that photographs struggle to capture—makes this work very appealing and decorative.
