Follower of Marie Laurencin, Female Portrait with Rose, oil on canvas, circa 1930, 34.5 x 40.5 cm
Oil on canvas.
Dimensions: 34.5 x 40.5 cm (unframed); 47 x 38.5 cm (framed).
Follower of Marie Laurencin (France, first half of the 20th century).
A delicate female portrait painted in a soft, powdery palette, typical of Parisian taste between the 1920s and 1930s. The pale face, dreamy blue eyes, coral lips and the rose in the hair strongly evoke the intimate and decorative world associated with Marie Laurencin and her circle.
The painting is executed with gentle tonal transitions and light glazing, creating a suspended, slightly dreamlike atmosphere, enhanced by the muted green-grey background.
Signed lower left (partially legible), with a date probably reading 1929. On the reverse, label and number on the stretcher; the canvas appears consistent with a Parisian supplier (Bourgeois type).
Silvered wooden frame with patina, showing some wear and small losses.
