Charles Malfroy was a French painter, born Charles Antoine Malfroy in Lyon (3rd arrondissement) on May 27, 1862, and died in Kremlin-Bicêtre on July 21, 1939. Charles Malfroy belongs to the post-impressionist tradition of Jean-Baptiste Olive. Drawn to the light of Mediterranean ports, he excelled in views of the French Riviera and the Bouches-du-Rhône region, particularly the port of Martigues. He also painted a few pictures of Venice. He demonstrated virtuosity in atmospheric effects with a talent for color.
