Object description :

"Louis XVI Period Bergère Chair, 18th Century, Decorated With Heart Motifs, Coins, And Fluted Spindle Legs."
A very beautiful Louis XVI period bergère armchair in solid waxed walnut. It rests on four tapered and fluted legs. The two front legs terminate at their upper parts in a constriction supporting a cubic die carved with a rosette, onto which the side rails of the seat frame and the curved front rail are joined. These three rails are decorated with heart-shaped motifs. The armrests of our bergère are in a "cavet" shape. They are formed of a fluted and reeded stop, surmounted by an acanthus leaf decoration and a row of coins. The inner edge of the backrest is worked in a heart-shaped pattern. The upper rail of the backrest is strongly curved and lowered at both ends, and is called "hat-shaped" by the fashion magazine of March 1786. This chair is a beautiful model typical of the work produced between 1780 and 1785. This armchair is in very good condition and very stable. Old reinforcements have been added and inlaid in the woodwork at the back of the backrest at the junction of the armrests and the upper rail. Also noteworthy is that each leg has been raised by a turned wooden addition at the request of the previous owner, in order to have a higher seat, allowing this chair to be used not only as a lounge chair but also as an office chair. The upholstery is in good condition and very comfortable; the fabric covering is made of The satin chair is in good condition, showing some minor signs of wear, a tear on the outer part of one of the side panels, and a few water stains on the seat (see photos). Dimensions: height to backrest 103.5 cm, height to seat 42-43 cm, width at armrests 67 cm, seat depth 52 cm, total depth (seat + backrest) 69 cm. Please contact us for shipping costs.
