Pair Of Louis XVI Armchairs. Upholstered In Tassinari And Chatel Silk Lampas.

Pair of Louis XVI armchairs upholstered in Tassinari & Chatel "Marie-Antoinette" silk lampas.

The woodwork features:
- a medallion back carved with a laurel wreath and a tied ribbon, - scrolled armrests,
- acanthus leaf decorations,
- a molded seat rail adorned with a row of pearls,
- tapered legs with fluted and reeded moldings and joints carved with rosettes.

The original patina, a nuanced seafoam green with gold highlights, is in very good condition and perfectly highlights the finesse of the craftsmanship.

Exceptional upholstery: Tassinari & Chatel silk lampas.
The armchairs are entirely covered in the famous "Marie-Antoinette" silk lampas (ref. 1553), produced by Tassinari & Chatel, one of the most prestigious silk houses in Lyon.
This fabric is a heritage re-edition created from a 1779 design intended for Marie Antoinette's private apartments at Versailles.
The large central medallion, floral garlands, palmettes, neoclassical attributes, and soft palette (celadon blue, gold, ivory, roses) make it one of the most iconic 18th-century designs.

Refined finish.
The fabric is also present on the back of the chair backs (in a perfectly centered medallion), which is rare.
Clean, taut underside: traditional webbing with springs.
Condition:
Very good overall condition.
Sound woodwork, fresh patina.
Perfect fabric, no wear or stains.

History and origin of the "Marie-Antoinette" upholstery fabric: Originally designed for the Queen: the design comes from a cartoon/decoration attributed to Gondoin and was likely commissioned around 1779 for the winter furnishings of Marie Antoinette's private chamber (billiard room/small apartments) at the Palace of Versailles.
This design consists of richly ornamented medallions, garlands, and neoclassical attributes.
- House and heritage: Tassinari & Chatel is one of the oldest silk houses in Lyon (heir to 17th/18th-century workshops).
Technique & characteristics
- Type: lampas (shaped weave, relief, and silk/chenille effects).
- Composition: 100% silk.
- Motif: neoclassical medallion (attributes, floral garlands), identical to the motif seen at Versailles.
