Superb Armchair with Lacquered Wood Frame, Louis XVI Period, Resting on Tapered Legs with Rudenté Fluting.
This armchair features a curved backrest in the “Gendarme’s Cap” style, crafted from lacquered wood that is molded and carved. Its armrests with cuffs rest on curved armrest supports that terminate in carved scrolls. Its dynamic belt. Connecting blocks decorated with rosettes. Stamped on its front crossbar, J. DELAUNAY. It should be upholstered to your taste.

Jean-Baptiste Delaunay (Died in April 1778) – Cabinetmaker, received his master’s certificate on November 13, 1764. Jean-Baptiste Delaunay, who had his workshop on Rue Saint-Martin, left behind Louis XV- and Louis XVI-style chairs characterized by pure, harmonious forms and understated decoration. He is considered one of the finest chair makers of his time. Delaunay’s style was exceptionally elegant, and the Louis XV armchairs produced in his workshop could have been signed by Falconet: they share the same purity of lines and harmony of proportions.
