Japanese Kyoto Satsuma Bowl “woman And Children”, Late Meiji Period (c.1890)
Elegant Kyoto Satsuma bowl, c.1890, probably from the Heian or Hododa workshop. The interior scene shows a graceful bijin and children beneath a flowering camellia tree in a quiet domestic garden. Painted in fine enamels and gold, the composition captures the late Meiji Kyoto aesthetic — a balance of gentle storytelling and precise linework.
The inner border features alternating gilt floral medallions and enamelled panels, while the exterior bears a frieze of iris leaves. The original mark has been removed from the base, a recognised Kyoto workshop practice from early 20th-century export resale.
