Art Deco Platinum Brooch Set With Old-cut Diamonds – Circa 1920
Art Deco Platinum Brooch Set with Old-Cut Diamonds – Circa 1920. A superb Art Deco platinum brooch, with a geometric and openwork design typical of the 1920s, set with remarkably brilliant old-cut diamonds. Its rigorous, symmetrical, and luxuriously pavé-set architecture fully illustrates the jewelry refinement of the Art Deco period. The central diamond, weighing 1.70 carats, is of exceptional quality, estimated between VVS2 and VS1, color F–G—rare for this type of brooch, where the main stone is often of more modest clarity. It is flanked by two diamonds of 0.50 carats each (SI1–SI2, color G–H), and then by a substantial pavé of old-cut diamonds that animates the rectangular motif with highly graphic plays of light. A workshop piece from the 1920s, unrestored, complete with its original safety chain.
