"Rococo Silver Planter 833 ‰, Porto, Early 20th Century "
Rococo silver planter, Porto, early 20th century Superb Portuguese table planter in 833 ‰ silver, hallmarked in Porto, in the Rococo style, of exceptional craftsmanship and very decorative. Oval in shape, it rests on four scrolled feet and features a lavish decoration of shells, volutes, foliage and cartouches, finely carved and chiseled. The interior is gilded (vermeil), creating a luminous contrast with the exterior silver. A rare feature: the piece retains its removable decorative grid, finely openwork and engraved with floral and rocaille motifs. This ingenious element can be used as a flower pick to hold arrangements, or presented alone as decoration. The planter is thus as beautiful used with flowers as displayed empty, so elaborate is its decoration. With its significant weight of 1.180 kg, this piece illustrates the robustness and quality of Portuguese silversmithing, often made of cast silver and not simply molded. This is a real "beautiful baby", massive, solid and richly decorated, combining utility and great decoration.
