A Double-sided Louis XV Style Desk In Walnut, Inlaid With Brass And Adorned With Gilt Bronze Mounts.
An elegant double-sided Louis XV/Transition style desk in walnut with brass inlay, France, circa 1880. This refined piece features five drawers on each side: four small drawers and a large central drawer on the writing side, replicated on the visitors' side for perfect balance (decorative false fronts). The decoration is enhanced by inlaid brass stringing and original gilt bronze mounts in a rocaille motif. The top, framed by a walnut molding, retains its carefully preserved antique patinated leather, a testament to the character and nobility of the piece. The cabriole legs terminate in gilt bronze sabots, typical of the great French cabinetmaking of the late 19th century. A desk of meticulous and balanced execution, a symbol of the refinement of Belle Époque workshops inspired by 18th-century models.
