Large, Flat Louis XV-style Desk Made Of Mahogany, With Marquetry, Leather, And Gilded Bronze – 19th/20th Centuries
Large, flat Louis XV-style desk, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, made of wood and mahogany veneer, with curly-grain marquetry, a leather-covered top, and extensive gilded bronze trim.
The desk rests on four curved legs. The side panels are adorned with gilded bronze female busts in the espagnolette style, extended by foliage motifs down to the feet. The waistband also features bronze elements decorated with acanthus leaves, rocaille motifs, and scrollwork.
The front features three drawers—one central and two on the sides. The drawer fronts are finished with a curly veneer, highlighted by gilded bronze frames. The drawer keys are included.
The back panel echoes the decorative composition of the front with three false drawers, allowing the desk to be placed in the center of a room.
The leather shows scratches, stains, and signs of wear. Wear and signs of age on the wood, veneers, and bronze are visible in the photographs.
