19th Century Gilt Bronze And Chalcedony Onyx Pedestal In The Manner Of Pierre Gouthière
An exceptional 19th-century gilt-bronze-mounted green chalcedony onyx pedestal after Pierre Gouthière. This magnificent pedestal was crafted in the classical form of a column. Its magnificent gilt-bronze Corinthian capitals, twisted base, and acanthus leaf mount give this column an exhibition-worthy quality. Each acanthus leaf in the capital is individually cast. The quality of the bronzes is exceptional, and the richness of the gilding is superb. The Corinthian capital of this column is based on the famous model designed by Pierre Gouthière around 1775-1780 and now housed in the permanent collection of the Mobilier National Français at the Louvre Museum.
