19th Century Giltwood Throne Chair, Design Attributed To William Kent
A rare 19th-century giltwood throne chair attributed to William Kent. The exquisite beauty of the design and the exceptional rarity of this masterpiece are undeniable. This is an absolutely magnificent example. It has been expertly reupholstered in the finest embroidered silk velvet. The X-frame used by William Kent was probably a remnant of a 16th-century English or Italian throne chair. The gilding has been expertly restored. There is a similar throne and stool in the English Royal Collection at Hampton Court Palace, designed by William Kent and made by Henry Williams, as well as an armchair provided by William Kent to Chatsworth House.
