Karl Friedrich Schinkel ( 1781-1841 ), was theforemost architect and designer to the Prussian court. He studied under the French architect FriedrichDavid Gilly, through whom he was introduced to the rigorously neoclassicalstyle of Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine, made famous through their Recueilde Decoration interieure, 1812. InBerlin Schinkel's interpretation of Neo-classism veered toward the Grecian, this influence is in hisdesigns for furniture and furnishings. He specialised & was a leadinginnovator in creating wonderful furniture from Iron & gilt metal and usedlarge scale neoclassical motifs in his inspired designs In 1830 he wasappointed Director of the Prussian Office of Public Works, where he decoratedapartments for Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm and Prince Auguste.
