Attributed To Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The rarity & importance of this
majestic work of art cannot be overstated, it is without question one of the
finest examples of Schinkel’s Iron work you will ever see and highlights his
inspired interpretation of ancient Grecian classicism. Karl Friedrich Schinkel ( 1781-1841 ), was the
foremost architect and designer to the Prussian court. He studied under the French architect Friedrich
David Gilly, through whom he was introduced to the rigorously neoclassical
style of Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine, made famous through their Recueil
de Decoration interieure, 1812.
In
Berlin Schinkel's interpretation of Neo-classism veered toward the Grecian, this influence is in his
designs for furniture and furnishings. He specialised & was a leading
innovator in creating wonderful furniture from Iron & gilt metal and used
large scale neoclassical motifs in his inspired designs In 1830 he was
appointed Director of the Prussian Office of Public Works, where he decorated
apartments for Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm and Prince Auguste. Ready to be converted to a lamp.
