Crucifixion Scene - Angels With Grails - 17th Century
This original depiction of the Crucifixion with Angels is an oil on panel from a 17th-century school, probably from southern Europe. Three angels solemnly surround Christ here.
They are beautifully winged and wear brightly colored, swirling garments. They collect Christ's blood flowing from his wounds in chalices. The scene, of great mystical intensity, illustrates the Eucharistic theme of redemption through sacrifice.
The depiction of the crucifixion is a traditionally painful scene in which bringing serenity is a challenge. The interesting play of chiaroscuro and the faces of our protagonists succeed, however.
Dimensions: 65 cm by 49 cm.
Good condition but classic split in the panel.
Work presented in an elegant wooden frame.
