Notebook 28 Drawings Antiquity Neoclassical Greece Rome Architecture Early 19th Century Mythology
Sketchbook of neoclassical studies of ancient and mythological figures and architectural elements. These drawings are inspired by Greek and Roman Antiquity. There are 28 of them. Some are very accomplished and others more sketchy. They represent: architectural studies (Corinthian capitals, columns, decorative motifs), mythological and warlike scenes, studies of draped figures, helmeted soldiers and classical compositions and studies of expression and faces. They must have been made by a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, perhaps during the great tour made by many artists in Italy. These drawings are presented in a paper notebook whose pages are joined by a hand-sewn binding. Some pages are made on both sides. Note some marks of time: slightly yellowed paper, some foxing, but overall in very acceptable condition for its age. Format: 28 cm x 21 cm. Additional photos on request.
