"Goldsmith Merit - Rectangular Planter In Solid Silver With Side Handles, 19th Century "
An important rectangular planter resting on four feet in the shape of stylized acanthus leaves ending in balls. The domed body is adorned with a rich chiseled decoration of palmettes, gadroons and raised foliage motifs. The openwork upper part alternates rectangular openings and vertical uprights, topped with a finely engraved laurel frieze. The side handles, with scrolls and foliage, harmoniously frame the whole. The removable interior, in original gilded brass, is signed Sannier Mérite.
The balance of the curve and the precision of the chiseling illustrate the technical perfection and elegance of the Louis XVI style revisited in the 19th century.
