Risler & Carré - Pair Of Lidded Candy Dishes In Solid Silver And Cobalt Blue Glass – Late 19th Century

Artist: Risler & Carre
An elegant pair ofcovered candy dishes in solid silver, each consisting of an openwork frameholding a removable cobalt-blue glass bowl, and resting on a substantialcircular display base made of solid silver.
This display stand, craftedlike a true window frame, features a wide, slightlyraised circular wing, edged with a delicate beaded frieze. Its center, withconcentric molded steps, forms a platform designed to hold thesugar bowl. It rests on small, discreet feet that raise it slightlyand accentuate the elegance of the entire piece.
The drageoir’s frame, which is particularly openwork, is adorned at the top with a friezeof interlaced patterns punctuated by small flowers. Below this, it features a rich decoration offoliated scrolls and garlands, arranged around circular medallionscentered on a radiant rosette. Four slender, leaf-adorned legs supportthe frame.
The cobalt-blue glass, visible through the openwork of the silver, provides a striking contrast incolor and highlights the delicacy of the decoration. The slightlydomed lid, edged with a beaded frieze, is crowned by a handle in the shape of afloral bud resting on a leafy pedestal.
A beautiful setof late 19th-century French silverware, remarkable for the quality ofits openwork decoration and the particularly elegant combination of silver andcobalt blue glass.
