A. Aucoc – Solid Silver Jardinière, Napoleon III Period
The four sides feature remarkable openwork decoration of scrolling foliage, a symmetrical interweaving of leaves and volutes forming an undulating trellis. The finely executed plant-inspired motifs, alternating solid and void, create a particularly refined interplay of light and shadow.
The base is highlighted by a raised frieze decorated with water leaves or stylized interlacing patterns. The jardinière retains its original zinc liner, painted green, designed to protect the silver from moisture. This original element enhances its authenticity and functionality.
The piece demonstrates excellent craftsmanship in chasing and assembly, characteristic of the great Parisian houses. The decorative motifs – fluted pilasters, a beaded frieze, and symmetrical scrolls – clearly evoke the revisited Louis XVI style, highly prized during the Second Empire.
