Silver Pitcher With Lid And A Sculptural Silhouette, Pomellato – Milan, 20th Century (1985)

Artist: Pomellato/handler
Striking in its form andresolutely modern aesthetic, this silver-plated pitcherstands out for its asymmetrical silhouette and fluid lines, whichgive it an almost organic look. Its curved body extends into a long, tapered spout, balanced by a black Bakelite handle whose curve isarched like a ponytail.
The lid, elegantlyintegrated into the piece’s overall design, is topped by a smallblack spherical knob that echoes the handle and reinforces the unity of its design.
Created between 1985 and1990 for the Italian house Pomellato in Milan, based on a design attributed todesigner Handler, this pitcher exemplifies the creative spirit of Italian designin the late 20th century. Far from traditional models with classic shapes,it boasts a bold, almost futuristic aesthetic, transforming thisutility object into a decorative piece in its own right.
The pitcher bears thestar hallmark followed by the number 469 MI. It also retains a retailer’slabel mentioning Gioielleria Somenzi in Cremona, a reminder of itscommercial history in Italy.
