A group of three handmade textile dolls sewn onto an aged woven backing.
These figures were created in Peru during the mid-20th century, using fragments of genuine pre-Columbian Andean textiles—likely from the Chancay culture (Central Coast, ca. 1000–1470 CE). The dolls are fashioned from handwoven cotton and camelid-fiber fabrics, with embroidered facial details in dyed yarn.
Such compositions were produced by Peruvian artisans for collectors and travelers, reusing ancient excavated textiles to evoke the appearance of original Chancay funerary dolls. Each fragment bears the patina of age, while the overall assembly reflects 20th-century craftsmanship inspired by pre-Columbian tradition.
