"Carved And Lacquered "polenta" Wooden Console With Busca Marble Top"
Console table in lacquered and carved wood with its Bousca marble from the 18th century, Louis XIV transition, Louis XV. Piedmontese work, TURIN. This console table illustrates the transition from the Louis XIV style to the Louis XV style in the TURIN region, around 1735, 1750. It has a still symmetrical structure, inherited from the Louis XIV style, and a rocaille sculpture that is already free and naturalistic, characteristic of the emerging taste for lightness and curves. Its "polenta" lacquer, specific to Piedmontese production, is distinguished by its slightly golden amber yellow color. This type of finish decorated the aristocratic interiors of the Turin palazzi. Its BUSCA marble, extracted in the CUNEO region (Piedmont), was highly prized for its warm color and polished surface, harmonizing perfectly with the chromatic palette of polenta lacquers/analogous consoles are preserved in the Palazzo REALE and Palazzo MADAMA in TURIN as well as in several private Piedmontese collections.
