Italian Mirror With Military Trophies
Large Italian mirror in carved and ivory-lacquered wood, decorated with military trophies and musical instruments. Piedmontese Baroque work, late 17th/early 18th century. Provenance: Palazzo Ottolenghi, Asti, Piedmont, Italy. Aristocratic commission linked to a general in the Savoy army. The Ottolenghi family is an influential family from Asti that gave its name to the eponymous palace, a prestigious Baroque building that now houses the Risorgimento Museum. Count Zaccaria Ottolenghi bought the palace in 1851, and his descendant, Leonetto Ottolenghi, contributed to the creation of the museum. Another member of the family, Salvatore Ottolenghi, is known for having invented forensic science. This mirror comes from an ancestor of the Ottolenghi family who was an important general in the Savoy army during the reign of... LOUIS XIV and was originally located in the POLI OTTOLENGHI palace.
