Venetian Coffee Table, Mid-18th Century, Circa 1745–1760
A rare lacquered wooden coffee table with a "finto tartaruga" (tortoiseshell-effect) design, accented with gold leaf and sky-blue highlights.
This table is reminiscent of mid-18th-century Venetian pieces, in the style of the decorative motifs used on furniture belonging to patrician families (Pisani, Rezzonico,Grimani), and bears a resemblance to certain pieces preserved at the Palazzo Rezzonico.
Its scalloped tabletop had, until recently, retained its original fabric covering—though it was heavily worn—which has since been replaced with aged leather.
The lacquer and antique gilding are in excellent condition.
The dynamic apron features a gilded floral medallion at its center and rests on four curved legs decorated with foliage motifs that extend the entire height of the piece.
