Small Kidney-shaped Mahogany Chest Of Drawers, Transition Style – Early 20th Century

This elegant chest of drawers, crafted from mahogany and mahogany veneer in the early 20th century in the true spirit of the Transition style, embodies the harmonious blend of curves inherited from the Louis XV period and the emerging austerity of the Louis XVI period. Its delicately curved, kidney-shaped form gives it a feminine and fluid silhouette.
The top is crowned with Griotte marble, featuring deep, veined hues, and is carefully edged with an openwork brass trim. This finely cut border adds an extra touch of sophistication while highlighting the nobility of the marble.
The ornate front opens to reveal two drawers fitted with chiseled bronze keys. The drawers are lined with brass moldings, which add rhythm to the surface and accentuate the piece’s subtle geometry. The bronze lock plates, shaped like Louis XVI knots, add a delicate and aristocratic touch, typical of neoclassical ornamentation.
The leg posts are embellished with finely crafted bronze finials. The curved legs are topped with finials that protect and enhance the base of the piece. This small chest of drawers, both decorative and functional, embodies the excellence of early 20th-century French furniture: a piece of character, where every line, every material, and every ornament tells a story of taste, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.
