"Pair Of Venetian Consoles "
Pair of Venetian consoles with a curved front, resting on three tapered and fluted legs (one on the front and two on the back). The crosspiece is decorated with reserves painted in blue-grey monochrome representing winged sphinxes, mythological figures of antique inspiration, framed with stylized motifs and polychrome faux marble. The rectangular tops with rounded corners are also painted in faux marble. This type of console reflects the Venetian neoclassical taste of the end of the 18th century. In Venice, the art of furniture is distinguished by a refined use of trompe-l'oeil painted decorations (faux marble, grisaille, monochrome), in harmony with the sumptuous interiors of the palazzi. The use of winged sphinxes refers to an erudite iconography inspired by antiquity and the excavations of Pompeii, very fashionable at that time.
