Japan Tansu Chest Of Drawers / Cabinet In 2 Sections, Early Meiji Period (1870/1880)
JAPAN, 2nd part of 19th century
Superb traditional Japanese TANSU chest (or cabinet) in 2 sections (KASANE)
KIRI (PAULOWNIA) wood
Complete and original hand forged iron fittings (hinges, locks and lock escutcheons, Gumbai handles, corner reinforcement, etc.)
4 main drawers and 2 small drawers hidden a secutity door.
The ingenious assembly system allows the position of the 2 boxes to be alternated and secured (the handles are straightened and allow, in addition to easy transport, closing using rods fixing the 2 parts together).
The wood is both light, for easy transport, and solid.
Very nice daily use patina that I chose not to touch. The sides have a darker shade because they were previously varnished.
Dimensions:
98 cm height (49 + 49 cm - the 2 parts can be positioned separately, one next to the other)
92 cm length
and 46 cm depth
