Large round dish with a scalloped rim, made of polychrome earthenware from Moulins (center of France), circa 1750/1760
The center of the dish features a large dragon surrounded by a rich, asymmetrical, and densely detailed floral decorative band characteristic of the Louis XIV and, above all, Louis XV styles, as well as a butterfly.
The colors used (blue—cobalt oxide, green—copper oxide, manganese—manganese oxide—and orange, excluding red, which many manufacturers were unable to produce) are characteristic of the Moulins factory’s productions, as are the decorative floral band and the butterfly.
The 18th-century taste for the Orient and chinoiserie is once again evident here. The dragon and the butterfly, larger than life, are symbols of exoticism and the Orient, already described and embellished by the many Jesuits and merchants of the Silk Road mainly since the 17th century (The first book on this thema, very known, is The Travels of Marco Polo, also known as The Book of the Marvels of the World by Marco POLO)
Condition:
Two small chips along the rim and a crack at the 4 o’clock position; may be restorable.
A through crack, approximately 5/6 cm long, that has been reinforced; visible in the photos

It is also spectacular for its subject matter—unseen to my knowledge—and its particularly rich decorative style
