"Allegoric Bacchus Putto Wood Sculpture From XVIIIth C, "
Finely carved Swiss pine wood sculpture depicting a cherub holding a bunch of grapes, an allegorical reference to the cult of Bacchus. The elegant design of covering the cherub's naked body with a drape held by a cord over the shoulder and anatomically well-structured, is evident. The cherub rests on a faux rocky terrain, reminiscent of Roman Baroque.
The carving, likely of Northern Italian origin, dates to around the mid-18th century.
The work is 72 cm tall.
A certificate of authenticity is included with the sale.
