Buddha Head – Thailand, Ayutthaya, 17th Century
Lovely small bronze Buddha head resting on a wooden base. Its brown-green patina testifies to its antiquity and gives the work an authentic and refined character. Made in Thailand, in the kingdom of Ayutthaya, in the 17th century, this sculpture expresses a profound serenity, with its half-closed eyes in a meditative pose and its elongated earlobes, symbols of wisdom and detachment. The head is adorned with a diadem finely incised with geometric motifs and topped with tiered hair rising towards an ushnisha, a cranial protuberance emblematic of Buddhist awakening. High-quality piece, representative of Siamese Buddhist art of the Ayutthaya period. Dimensions of the head: height: 4.5 cm width: 2.5 cm depth: 2.5 cm
