Originally conceived as a painting frame, it was later adapted into a mirror with the insertion of a fine mercury glass, most likely contemporary to the frame itself. The piece retains a strong Baroque character, perfectly expressing the decorative taste of Bologna at the beginning of the 18th century.
Period: Bologna, very early 18th century
Materials: carved and gilt wood, mercury glass
Overall dimensions: 51 × 35 cm
Inner dimensions (glass): 32 × 24 cm
A frame of great charm, suitable both as a mirror and as a valuable collector’s frame, a refined testimony to the Bolognese Baroque carving and gilding tradition.
