Massive bronze figurine representing a lion fighting a snake, a famous motif by A. BARYE.

Engraved on the base "A. BARYE" (Antoine-Louis Barye, 1795-1875), one of the greatest French sculptors of the 19th century, famous for his representations of "Animaliers" animals.
Foundry mark: "JB Deposee, Bronze Garanti Paris", dark brown patina.
Resting on a round black marble base.

This sculpture "Lion with a Snake" or "Lion Slaying a Snake" is one of Bayre's best-known works. The original was created around 1832 and cast in bronze in various sizes. This is a high-quality reproduction in heavy bronze, probably made in Paris in the second half of the 20th century.
