Original Mercury gilding. after a model by Jean Joseph de Saint Germain (1755). Dimensions: Height 54 cm Width 35 cm Depth 20 cm Superb DimensionsDetailed description: This Louis XV style cartel clock, with its rich ornamentation, presents an elegant and lively silhouette, typical of the Rocaille aesthetic. Its main body, in the shape of a violin, rests on four volute feet. The front is magnificently decorated with a country and musical trophy, finely sculpted. We can see a crook, an oboe, a bagpipe, a pair of castanets and a score. In the center, a large enameled dial with Arabic and Roman numerals stands out. It is protected by a domed glass bezel, which opens to wind the movement. This dial is also decorated with stylized fleur-de-lis motifs and a railroad track for the minutes. At the top, a large floral spray crowns the whole. The entire cartel is sumptuously decorated with rocaille motifs, such as acanthus leaves, shells, moldings, foliage, and flowers. This composition is distinguished by the virtuosity of its curves and counter-curves, as well as its ascending and descending lines, which give the object a feeling of permanent movement, like an evocation of natural forms. For better sound, acoustic openings have been made on the four sides of the cartel. They are hidden behind an openwork brass marquetry à la Reine, covering a red fabric. The rear door, also molded, provides access to the mechanism. The whole rests on an asymmetrical rectangular console base. The latter, with four arched legs, is also richly decorated with stylized acanthus leaves and openwork floral motifs. The decoration covers all sides of the cartel, making this piece a true work of art visible from all angles. Condition report: Superb condition, fine chiseling. Exceptional original Mercury gilding with a high-quality interplay of matte and brilliant finishes. Original movement, completely revised, works perfectly, complete with its winding key. Raingo Fréres: The Raingo brothers quickly stand out for their bronzes. Indeed, the Raingo brothers, initially known as clockmakers, added art and furniture bronzes to their catalog. From 1860, the Raingo House created remarkable pieces for the Emperor and Empress Eugénie, a collection that can be admired today at the Louvre. The Raingo brothers produced works based on Antiquity and later produced small models of works by contemporary artists such as Pradier, Carrier-Belleuse, and Auguste Moreau. They also worked in collaboration with the famous cabinetmaker François Linke. The house was presented at the 1862 Universal Exhibition in London. At the Paris Universal Exhibitions of 1867, 1878, and 1889, it won awards each time, including the gold medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition. The workshop was then located at 202 rue Veille du Temple in Paris. The Raingo brothers' works can be found in various museums, including the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels, the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan, and the Palacio Real in Madrid.
