"Pair Of Bateba Statues, Lobi People, Burkina Faso"
Pair of statues representing two figures standing in the same position. The arms are along the body and the hands are placed on the stomach on either side of the navel. The mouth is forward, the forehead is marked with a horizontal line identifying the brow ridge. The nose is thick and straight. One figure wears a crest.
These statues are called bateba. They are considered living beings and are a true link between the visible and the invisible.
Wood with a patina of use (cracks, erosions on the back).
