Dan Chair, Ivory Coast
This low chair features a rectangular seat framed by thick crossbars, a slightly curved backrest and four short legs with a cylindrical cross-section. An elegant geometric frieze, carved in shallow relief, runs along one edge of the seat and testifies to the care taken in the finish.
Among the Dan people of Ivory Coast, this type of seat was the property of a man, who would carry it with him when travelling and to gatherings.
In very fine condition. Early 20th century.
