A very beautiful helmet mask from the Kongo people. In good overall condition, with signs of use visible in the photos.
Dated to the mid-20th century, around the 1950s. Dimensions: 34 cm high by 20 cm in diameter.
- The Kongos or Bakongo, not to be confused with the inhabitants of the two Congos, are a Bantu people of Central Africa. They are found primarily in southern Gabon (in the provinces of Nyanga and Ngounié), in the south of the Republic of the Congo (regions of Pool (Mpumbu), Bouenza (Buenza or Bwenza), Niari (Niadi or Niari), Lekoumou (Lekumu), and Kouilou (Kwilu or Kuilu)), in northern Angola (the provinces of Uíge (Wizidi), Cabinda (province: Kabinda), and Zaire (Nzadi)), and in the province of Kongo Central in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Kongo people are estimated to number more than 18 million.
