Large Ceremonial Vase In Sainte-radegonde Earthenware—signed A. Peaudecerf—19th/20th Century

Large lidded earthenware vase from Sainte-Radegonde – Signed A. Peaudecerf – Late 19th / Early 20th century.
Description:
Large ceremonial lidded vase (with its original lid) made of fine earthenware from the famous Sainte-Radegonde factory (Touraine), produced in the late 19th century or very early 20th century. This prestigious piece is perfectly in keeping with the style of Sèvres porcelain and the “Bleu de Tours” productions from Gustave Asch’s workshops.
Key Features:

  • Color: Intense cobalt blue background (midnight blue) enhanced with rich decorations and foliage scrolls in gold.
  • Double decoration: A large, hand-painted oval medallion depicting a romantic/pastoral scene (a shepherdess and a young man offering a bird’s nest), inspired by the 18th century. On the reverse, a second medallion features a delicate rural landscape with a thatched cottage.
  • Signature: Hand-signed “A. PEAUDECERF” (Albert Peaudecerf, renowned painter and decorator, died in 1911) at the bottom of the romantic scene.
  • Foot and base: Square base with original historical markings beneath the plinth reading “Biscon France” and a period inventory number (100F).
  • Finish: Lid handle shaped like a gilded acorn.

Condition:
In good overall condition for an object of this era. The cobalt blue colors and painted medallions are beautifully preserved. Slight normal wear on the gilding in places, attesting to its authenticity. No major cracks or visible restoration. Dimensions:
Height: approximately 40 cm (with lid).
