19th Century Firefighter Fire Cap.

FIRE CAP, or FIRE HELMET IN SHEET METAL FROM THE 19TH CENTURY circa 1840.
Black iron fire cap, consisting of a half-spherical cap and a straight headband. Riveted visor and neck cover. Brass crest, each fin stamped with twelve gadroons, mask stamped with a flaming bomb with lower part ending in the shape of a heart. Chinstraps composed of two round brass rosettes stamped with gadroons and two leather chin straps covered with a single-piece stamped brass plate with a series of scalloped scales. Front badge stamped in brass with a flaming bomb placed on two axes. Inner headdress missing. Good general condition.
