William Adams & Sons 1896 Salt Shaker.
Adams Ceramics.
A collector's item for connoisseurs and enthusiasts of fine English ceramics.
A superb and authentic sugar shaker (muffineer) crafted from fine stoneware in the Jasperware style in deep cobalt blue, manufactured by the prestigious firm William Adams & Sons in Tunstall (Staffordshire, England). This piece is strictly period (late Victorian/Edwardian period, circa 1896–1910), as evidenced by the complete official markings stamped in relief beneath the base: “ADAMS ESTBD 1657,” “TUNSTALL ENGLAND” in their original rectangular cartouches, as well as the initials of the modeler, “J.C.,” and the workshop mark “W.”Details and Craftsmanship:
The matte stoneware body features a magnificent and rare continuous circular frieze executed with remarkable finesse (using the sprigging technique). It vividly depicts a scene from a traditional English hunt: riders setting off, finely detailed saddle horses at the edge of a wood, and a pack of hounds with their noses to the ground following a trail.
The upper mount and its richly openwork domed lid are original, crafted from beautifully finished silver-plated metal.
Condition:
Ideal for a cabinet of curiosities or a discerning collection. The blue has retained all its original intensity without any fading. The white stoneware reliefs are intact. Height 14.5 cm.
