Important pair of Neo-Gothic style wrought iron andirons. They were made during the period of Viollet le Duc (1814-1879). Work of very good quality from the second half of the 19th century. Height 98cm. Depth 45cm. The total weight about 45 kilos. On-site pickup only.

Description:
A significant and rare pair of large fireplace andirons (chenets) in the Neo-Gothic style, crafted from artistic cast iron and dating to the second half of the 19th century (the Viollet-le-Duc period). This monumental, finely executed set is ideally suited for a fireplace in a château or a residence of distinct character. Each piece features a richly decorated, square vertical shaft:

The central section is adorned on three sides with relief figures of saints and mourners, each with a halo and set within a medieval-inspired niche.
The top is crowned by a slender pinnacle, embellished with crockets and a finial.
The base is a tripod, openwork structure resting on arched feet that form trefoil-pointed (Gothic) arches.
The quality of the cast iron is exceptional, with remarkably sharp, precise detailing in the figures' drapery and facial features. The horizontal iron bars at the rear remain intact and robust, making them fully functional for supporting logs.
The pieces are in excellent condition, featuring a uniform, satiny black patina; they are sound and free from corrosion.
