Vincenti & Cie 1855 Silver Medal
A fine 19th century gilt bronze mantel clock by Henri Robert, Horloger de la Marine, Paris, Faubourg Saint-Honoré, bearing the Vincenti & Cie, 1855 Silver Medal mark.
The clock, finely cast and gilt, rests on four small turned and gadrooned feet, raised upon a moulded wooden plinth, richly carved and gilded.
The base features a continuous frieze punctuated with geometric “dés de raccordement” in the neoclassical taste, recalling the architecture of period furniture. At the center of the front, a prominent acanthus leaf cascade descends gracefully. The alternation of matte and burnished gilding further enhances the elegance of the piece.
On the lower front panel, a stylized drapery motif suggests falling fabric, enriched with delicately veined foliage. To either side, two oval medallions in relief are surmounted by swags of laurel garlands and flanked by columns supporting the upper portion.
The circular white enamel dial, with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic for the minutes, is surmounted by a ribbon-tied bow suspending two laurel garlands falling symmetrically to each side. The whole is crowned by a neoclassical covered urn on a pedestal, flanked with scrolling side handles and adorned with applied garlands.
In excellent condition, the movement is in perfect working order, striking the hours and half-hours. Complete with winding key. Rear door missing.
