This rare carabinier officer's helmet, model 1810, appears to correspond to a junior officer.
It has the regulatory characteristics of the period, with details that testify both to its authenticity and its use.
Detailed description:
• Copper shell, composed of two welded half-shells, with numerous traces of partially straightened impacts.
• Exterior finish: a treatment similar to gilding has been applied, but time has changed the color to a red copper.
• Interior: covered with a generalized verdigris, indicating its age.
Metal ornaments:
• Headbands and visor bands and neck cover in silver-plated copper.
• Front band decorated with volutes with double striated molding in the upper part; central ornament with riveted imperial "N" and gilded crown.
• Crest in gilded brass, fixed by nine screws; two butterfly screws allow the attachment of the caterpillar (at the front and on the right side).
Caterpillar:
• Wire structure covered with a "sausage" trimmed with fur dyed red, now patinated to a warm brown.
• Total length: 72 cm. Chinstraps and rosettes: • Chin straps with 16 silver-plated copper scales, lined with silk velvet (worn), with linen cord ending in a silver pompom.
• Rosettes in silver-plated copper, decorated with a radiant sun in relief, fixed by a golden five-pointed star.
Inner headdress:
• Composed of a sheepskin (8 cm at the front, 6 cm at the back) and a brown sateen of 6.5 cm in average height.
General condition: This helmet shows numerous traces of time and handling, which give it its historical character. It nevertheless remains complete, with its original elements, and constitutes a beautiful imperial collector's item, testifying to the prestige of the carabinieri under the Empire.
